The latest version of Keynote available from the Mac App Store as of todays date is version 7.1, it is only compatible with Sierra, it does not run on any previous version of Mac OS.
is it even possible for me to even get OS X version 10.12 or later?
Your Mac (MacBook Air from 2013) can run Sierra if you decide to upgrade. Upgrading Mac OS can have other cosequses such as hardware drivers and applications not being supported, so do some research on all your hardware and existing software.
Sierra can be installed from the Mac APP Store, remember to back up your hard drive and work files before installing an upgrade.
